The proud tradition of Wu-Tan was brought to Oslo by Shifu Paolo Castaneda. Shifu Castaneda began his training in martial arts at the age of 11 in Taekwondo. He had also studied Filipino Kali and some Western Boxing.

Shifu Castaneda began his studies in Guoshu under Grandmaster Kurt Wong of Anchorage, Alaska. Under Grandmaster Kurt Wong, Shifu Castaneda initially learned northern Praying Mantis, Chen style Taijiquan, and Jiao men Changquan. After three years of studying under Grandmaster Wong, Shifu Castaneda was accepted as a third generation disciple in the Wu-Tan tradition. This allowed him the opportunity to study the arts of Grandmaster Liu Yun-Qiao: Bajiquan, Piguazhang, and Baguazhang.

Throughout his time training at Wu-Tan, Shifu Castaneda also had the opportunity to learn some material from Grandmaster Su Yu-Chang, Marit Ramberg (a student of Grandmaster Su), and Master Lu Chang-Kuei (Grandmaster Wong’s kung fu brother). Since then Shifu Castaneda has written several articles on Chinese Guoshu in publications such as Inside Kung Fu and RAPID Journal. He has also taught Guoshu for The International Theater Academy of Norway (TITAN), introducing basic guoshu movements and Long Fist to the theater students. Shifu Castaneda was also recently elected Secretary General for the newly formed Norwegian Chinese Kuoshu Federation (NCKF). Till this day, Shifu Castaneda maintains contact with Grandmaster Kurt Wong and continues his training, research, and studies in guoshu.
